May, 1995
First alpha version of Java released to the general public. This release runs only on Solaris.

July, 1995
Second alpha version of Java released to the general public. This release adds support for Windows NT.

August, 1995
Third alpha version of Java released. This version supports Windows 95. Sun and Netscape announce that Java will be included in Navigator.

Fall, 1995
First pre-beta of Java 1.0.

Fall, 1995
1.0 beta 1

January 1996
Teach Yourself Java in 21 Days is released. It sells over 200,000 copies in the first two months.

February, 1996
First JDK for the Mac is released.

May, 1996
First JavaOne conference sells out to over 5000 attendees. Various products including Jeeves and JavaBeans are revealed for the first time.

December, 1996
First beta of Java 1.1

February, 1996
Java 1.1 released.
