The Blackdown Project has released their version of the Java 2 Standard Edition for Linux 1.4.2-03. This includes a software development kit, runtime environment, and Java plug-in for Linux on x86 and Sparc. It's based on Sun's source code for JDK 1.4.2_10. It is not open source. This release plugs a security hole and fixes some significant bugs. All users should upgrade.

The Apache Jakarta Commons Team has released Commons Net 1.4.1 (formerly known as ORO NetComponents), an open source (Apache license) suite of internet protocols implemented in Java including Finger, Whois, TFTP, Telnet, POP3, FTP, NNTP, SMTP, discard, rexec, rcmd, rlogin, Time, Echo, NTP, and SNTP. 1.4.1 restores compatibility with pre-1.4 VMs.
